Meet our Senior Account Executive, Meg. Find out more about her and what she does here at Wonder.
How did you get into doing your job?
In my previous job, I dipped my toes into digital marketing and it didn’t take long for me to discover it’s what I’m most passionate about. I absolutely loved that aspect of my role. This experience sparked my interest, and I began looking for positions in digital marketing agencies around Leeds. That’s when I came across The Wonder Agency. I sent off an email to express my interest, and as luck would have it, the role I was keen on (yep, the one I’ve got now) was available. They must’ve liked me because here I am, six months later, and I genuinely love what I do!
What did you do before working for The Wonder Agency?
Before I joined The Wonder Agency, I spent five years working at the head office of a leading UK supermarket chain, starting out as an assistant buyer. I worked my way through various roles, with my second role being an online media advisor, followed by an online media specialist, and finally an online buyer. I really enjoyed the media and marketing side of things, but when they brought in an external media team, my media specialist role was no more.
This is when I took on the online buyer role, which had its ups and downs. I’ve never been the best with numbers, and this role certainly required a lot of them! After a year, I realised this wasn’t my true passion, and my skills weren’t really being put to use. That’s when I decided to explore the world of digital marketing and the agency side of things!
At The Wonder Agency, my role is all about putting the client first. In client services, I’m the voice of the client, making sure their needs are front and centre. It’s not just about ticking boxes, it’s about being genuine, clearn in communication, and making sure we’re all on the same page.
What do you do for The Wonder Agency?
I’m involved in all aspects of our operations, from managing the team’s resourcing to keep each day running smoothly to gathering all the invoicing details at the end of every month. I make it a priority to stay on top of all client tasks and ensure meetings are booked so I can share progress updates. Plus, I manage the projects, keeping everyone on track from start to finish, organising catch-ups, and solving any issues that pop up along the way. Basically, I’ve got to be in the know about everything to keep things running smoothly, ensure the client is happy, and make sure we follow through on our promises!
What are the most challenging and rewarding parts of your role?
It’s all about putting a smile on our clients’ faces and knowing I’ve made a real difference in their experience! Plus, there’s nothing quite like the buzz of getting tasks done efficiently. On top of that, knowing I’m contributing to the success of the agency is a big bonus too.
What advice would you give someone starting out?
Persistence, experience, and I know it sounds a bit cliché, but just be yourself! After what felt like a mountain of interviews and PowerPoint presentations, I finally found the agency for me. They say what’s meant for you will find you, and what’s not will pass you by. This saying can be frustrating when you’re in the thick of it (trust me I know), but it really is true.
From my experience in client services, I’ve learnt that strong management skills and effective communication are key. Digital marketing agencies really value individuals who can manage relationships, understand client needs, and convey ideas clearly. So, if you can showcase your ability to keep everything running smoothly while connecting with clients, you’ll be well on your way to getting that job you want!
